Rationale

For this assignment i have chosen to create a (re) launch package for the band U2. The three albums that i have chosen are Wide Awake in America, The Joshua Tree, and Rattle and Hum, all of which were released in the 1980's. With this in mind i have created three posters that reflect the experiences in that U2 had explored throughout their time in America. This can been seen through the visual imagery i have shown in each of the posters. Overall i feel that that package that i have designed will introduce/connect the contemporary audience in that it reflects the bands experiences through the visual imagery i have created and the meanings behind it.

Embellishments

The embellishments i am using for this project are the use of dieline folds/cuts for the packging, also the use of UV overgloss on the package itself. This will be done using duraceal to get the same kind of effect. Here are some screenshots of the final design. (Can't really see the dielines).

Final Booklet

Taking all elements from posters etc, i have then intergrated the same aesthetic into the booklet design. Each album has its own double spread with a cropped image from the poster and information regarding the album and song itself. Support information such as history, their legacy, music style, and album playlist have been intergrated aswell.

CD Design

Here is my final CD cover using the same style in all elements of the poster. Have to cropped the American flag so that it suits the CD's specifications. Here is a screenshot of my final CD cover. Also includes the the dieline marks ready to cut.

Packaging

Had a look at some of the packages the tutors bought to class. I thought they were very cool. Took a couple of images so that i could look back at when doing my designs. I like the green one and its use of the cd holder as it folds out.

Textures in Photoshop

Played around with a few textures in photoshop, although the images that i took are too small for an A2 size. But have found some very large images from google luckily (A3 size), which is ok... but have to duplicate them in order to fit the actual size of my posters. Here are some screenshots of different blending modes using the texture that i had selected that thought was most suitable.

Textures

Went around today and took some images for my textures. The textures i have been looking at are trying to represent a old vinatage feel. The reason behind this is not only because of the albums being situated within the 80's but also the meanings behind each song. For example, the Statue of Liberty was built in 1886, a time where the textures that i have got would become a resemblence to back then.

Plan Of Attack!

In terms of using a 'healthy mixture' of Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign i have taken a systematic approach for my posters, aswell as thinking about the booklet/packaging. For illustrator i will be using the images i posted below to vector out a suitable image for each poster that represents the song itself. This will then be implemented into photoshop where the texture comes into place and playing around with suitable colour levels etc. After saving each poster as a tiff format, this will then be placed into InDesign to size(A2).
